Нови данни за монетната циркулация от епохата на Второто Българско царство в средновековния град Лютица
New data on the coin circulation during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom in the medieval town of Lyutitsa
Abstract
The archaeological research at the medieval fortress of Lyutitsa near the modern town of Ivaylovgrad reveals that the life on the hill began during the Late Bronze Age to continue throughout the Early Iron Age, Antiquity, and Middle Ages up to the Ottoman Age. The last two archaeological seasons in the fortress (2016 and 2017) were rather successful adding to our knowledge about the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.
The presence of emissions of imitations of Byzantine coins similar in amount and quality and circulating in both Lyutitsa and Veliko Tarnovo at the same time suggests similar economic processes. The author presents three of the five Bulgarian coins found in Lyutitsa. They testify to the Bulgarian affiliation of this fortress.
