Abstract

The work presents eight small Hungarian billon coins – denarii from the 16th – early 17th c. struck in the mint of the Hungarian town of Kremnitz. They are a share of a certain coin hoard found on the territory of today’s Bulgaria. The coins are housed in the main Numismatic depot of the National Museum of History – Sofia.
The purchasing value of the billon Habsburg denarii was quite low even within the boundaries of the Ottoman Empire. During the 16th – 17th c. the European golden and silver coins were generally highly valued there. For that reason the denarii in question were not a subject of targeted collection and depositing by the local population of the Ottoman Empire, the Bulgarian territories including. Hereof hoards containing such coins are almost not known from the territory of Bulgaria.
