Abstract

The publication presents part of a hoard comprising European silver coins dated to the late 16th, 17th and early 18th century found on the territory of presentday Bulgaria. The coins (41 pieces) are kept in the National Museum of History – Sofia. The artefacts in this partially preserved hoard illustrate to a certain extent the great variety of European silver coins which circulated freely in the 17th and 18th century on the markets of the vast Ottoman Empire, including the presentday Bulgarian territories. They were highly valued by the local population, both Christian and Muslim, and were accumulated as hoards.
