Abstract

The article presents five Ottoman coins: two silver (dirhams) of Murad III (1574 – 1595), one copper (mangir) of Süleyman II (1687 – 1691) and two unidentified billon coins. The finds were discovered during archaeological excavations in Varna. The researched area was close to where the port was situated during the period. All of the coins were found in archaeological context.

The future publishing of coins and other artefacts from the 15th – 19th c. will significantly improve our knowledge of the Bulgarian lands during the Ottoman epoch, a topic that still remains understudied.
