Abstract

The paper presents a Byzantine lead seal (molybdobull) of the Emperor Isaac II Angelus (1185 – 1195) acquired for the collection of the National Museum of History – Sofia in 2021. It was found in the region of the town of Harmanli. This is the fifth published molybdobull of this emperor discovered on the presentday Bulgarian territory so far. The documented number of lead seals of Isaac II Angelus found in present-day Bulgaria is most probably related to the turbulent events resulting from the complicated relations between the Byzantine Empire and the recently restored Bulgarian Kingdom following the uprising of Asen and Peter.
