Durostorum, coin hoard, barbarian invasions, 3rd centuryAbstract
The article presents a coin hoard discovered in 1959 in the town of Silistra. The hoard comprises 750 silver coins, the earliest of which is of Emperor Septimius Severus, and the terminus post quem issues date from the reign of Emperor Trebonianus Gallus and his son Volusianus (251 – 253 AD). The hiding of the hoard is probably related to the barbarian invasions of 253 – 254 AD. Today, only 641 coins from the hoard are preserved in the collection of the Regional History Museum – Silistra. This article focuses on the “missing” coins, with their description and identification based on entries in the 1959 inventory book.
