Abstract

This publication comprises an introduction, five chapters, a conclusion, references, a site index, a catalog, and an English summary. Chapter one reviews the history of Late Bronze and Early Iron Age research in Bulgarian archaeology. Chapter two examines the source material, current research, and general issues related to settlements, necropolises (including single graves), sanctuaries (including rock sanctuaries), pit fields, and mines from this period. Chapter three analyzes the topography and landscape characteristics of the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age settlement system along the middle Maritsa and Tundzha rivers. Chapter four discusses the climate and economy of the period, including paleoecological conditions, agriculture, animal husbandry, and ore mining/metallurgy. Finally, chapter five presents a spatial analysis of the settlement system using GIS.
