The Early Neolithic in the Struma River Valley and Sofia Plain in the Context of its Contacts with Anatolia

Abstract

The work is directly related to an extremely important issue in Mediterranean prehistory – the process of Neolithization of the Balkans. The main text includes an introduction, four chapters, a conclusion, references used and a summary in English. The first chapter presents the studies of the Early Neolithic in the Struma River Valley and the Sofia Plain, while the second chapter discusses the periodization, cultural differentiation and absolute chronology of this period in the region. The third chapter is focused on the presentation of the Early Neolithic culture in the studied area and the comparative analysis with the data from the synchronous settlements of the Central Western and Southwestern Anatolia. The last chapter is the synthesis part of the study. It investigates the emergence and development of the Early Neolithic in the Struma River Valley and the Sofia Plain in the context of its connections with Anatolia.
