Abstract

The article comments upon a weapon, discovered during illegal excavations in Shumen district. It was published by V. Parushev as ‘Hungarian rapier’ and was connected with the Crusade of Władysław III Jagiełło in the Bulgarian lands in 1444. In reality this weapon is a ‘konchar’ from the second half of the 16th c., characteristic for the armaments of the Eastern European cavalry – the so-called ‘Hussars’. This konchar reflects the Hungarian military fashion in the confines of the Ottoman Empire.
