The current paper emphasized the need for a purposeful study and adoption by archaeologists and historians of the then-used words denoting the artifacts that we find today during archaeological excavations. As an example, a well-known type of medieval portable ceramic vessels for liquids, traditionally designated in the Bulgarian scientific literature as ‘baklitsa’, is presented. The invalidity of the use of this relatively late term is proven. It has been established that their medieval name was ‘ploskvi’ (singular ‘ploskva’), the use of which is recommended.
